Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Bruins clinch a spot in the OVC Tournament with a 11-5 victory over the Southeast Missouri Redhawks on Friday at Rose Park.
Patrick McGrath (Jackson, Tenn.) received the start on the mound for the Bruins, pitching six innings he struck out one and held the Redhawks scoreless for four innings. Matthew Kinney (Alapharetta, Ga.) came in relief to pitch for the Bruins. In three innings pitched he struck out four of the eight batters he faced.
The Bruins were quick to return with runs after each time the Redhawks scored. The Bruins took their first lead of the game in the first inning with a two RBI single by Tyler Walsh (Evansville, Ind.) to plate Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) who had reached by walk and Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) who singled through the left side.
After the Redhawks tied the game back in the second, The Bruins returns with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. A fielder's choice for Drew Ferguson plated a run and two other runs scored off a Redhawk throwing error.
In the seventh, the Redhawks tacked a single run on the board. Alec Diamond (Kennesaw, Ga.) led off the inning with a single, the next two batters struck out but the bats did not stop for the Bruins. Nick Egli delivered with a two outs single to left field to plate Diamond. Tyler Walsh followed with an RBI single to left field followed by a single from William Dodd (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) to right center.
The Bruins improve to 27-26 overall and 15-13 in conference and will find out their seed in the OVC Tournament after all OVC games have been played across the conference. The Bruins return to Rose Park tomorrow for the last game of the series and to celebrate Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 1PM tomorrow and will be covered on both the Bruins Sports Network and the OVC Digital Network.
