Box Score JACKSON, Tenn.-- No. 6 seed Bruins made a great run in the OVC Baseball tournament but fell to No. 1 Southeast Missouri 9-4 on Saturday.
After a preseason poll selecting the Bruins to finish 8th, the Bruins fought their way to take the No. 6 seed in the Tournament, and finish third overall in only their second OVC Tournament appearance.
The Bruins came out of the gate early in Saturday's game against Southeast Missouri, scoring four runs before the Redhawks were able to cross the plate. Southeast Missouri had a big inning in the bottom half of the fourth taking a six run lead on the Bruins. The lead grew making it hard for the Bruins to regain a lead.
Senior Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) was two for four in the game and extended his hit streak to 11 games. Beaty's double in the first inning plated Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) who had doubled before him at the plate.
Ferguson continued to make a great tournament run at the plate and in the field. Ferguson made multiple diving catches in the outfield as well as went three for four at the plate with an RBI. Ferguson recorded a single and two doubles.
The Bruins end their season 29-29 overall and have much to be proud of. In the Bruins 29 wins, they set NCAA and conference records in a 34-10 victory over UT Martin, swept nationally ranked Vanderbilt, and finished third overall in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Southeast Missouri and Morehead State compete Saturday afternoon for the OVC Baseball Championship title.
