JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Belmont Men's Tennis was held off in its next to last contest of the regular season portion of its schedule on Friday afternoon. The Bruins (9-12, 3-2 OVC) were edged, 4-3, on the road at Jacksonville State (10-8, 3-2 OVC).
The Bruins picked up wins at both Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to give the team momentum. The duo of Cedric Dujacquier (Feluy, Belgium) and Hendrik Inno (Someru, Estonia) were victorious at No. 1, 6-2 while the team of Bruno Russo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Vincent Sterkens (Antwerp, Belgium) picked up the win at No. 3, 6-4.
Action on the singles side was a battle from top to bottom, slowing the momentum, unfortunately. Dujacquier won handily at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Sterkens was also victorious in his match at No. 2, even going into a tiebreaker to pull out the win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Inno was barely edged at No. 3, held off in the tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9). The Gamecocks went on to grab wins at Nos. 4-6 to pick up the narrow 4-3 win.
Belmont returns to action on Saturday, April 15 on the road at in-state rival Tennessee Tech for the team's regular season finale. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
