NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Belmont Men's Tennis team (12-10, 5-0 OVC) continued to find success Friday, as they defeated Jacksonville State, 5-2, to remain undefeated in OVC play.
BU was able to grind its way to its seventh win in a row, going into their final regular season match on Saturday.
Belmont was able to escape with the doubles point. With each team winning one match each in doubles play, the duo of Vincent Sterkens and David Faulkner defeated Andres Gomez and Pablo Caffarena, 6-4, to win the doubles point for Belmont.
The Bruins did give up two matches in singles play but were able to win the rest to secure the win.
Hendrik Inno had an impressive match against Aljaz Kaplja on court 1, winning 6-2, 6-4. On court 2, Marko Ilic had a tough match against Pablo Caffarena, as he went down in two sets. After losing the first set 6-1, Ilic forced a tiebreaker in the second set but went down 7-2 in the tiebreaker.
On court 3, Vincent Sterkens won in three sets against Joaquin Vallejo. After losing the first set 6-3, Sterkens came out strong and won two tough sets in a row at 6-4 in each set. On court 4, Zak Khan had a tough bout against Paolo Cucalon, as he lost his match in three sets. After winning a difficult first set 7-6, Khan fell short in the second set losing 6-3. Then after the two players tied in the third set, Khan lost in the tiebreaker 10-8.
On court 5, Jake Briggs had a good outing, as he won both sets against Sergio Lizarraga 6-4. Finally on court 6, in his second to last regular season match, Stephen Goldman had a stellar performance against Andres Gomez, as he won both sets, 6-2.
Belmont will have its final match of the regular season on Saturday, as they will face off against Tennessee Tech at the Nashboro Village Indoor Courts at 12:30 p.m.
