NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team returns to non-conference action this weekend, starting with Lipscomb on Friday and having its home opener against North Alabama on Sunday.
The Bruins are coming off a 6-1 victory at Bellarmine last week, with two Belmont doubles teams and five Bruins claiming their first singles victories of the season. Senior Marko Ilic claimed his 46th career singles win and earned OVC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, marking the second consecutive week where a Belmont student-athlete claimed the award. The Zagreb, Croatia native is now tied for 11th in program history in career singles wins with Augusto Ricciardi (1999-2003).
Lipscomb has won two of its first three matches of the season, recording shutouts against Austin Peay and Tennessee State. Maksim Bogdanovich leads the Bisons with a perfect 3-0 record in singles competition, with the doubles teams of Jorge Ortegon/Pedro Uribe and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto/Jake Penny each recording two wins this season.
North Alabama is still looking for its first win of the season, dropping its first five matches in 2021. The Lions have four different players who have picked up a singles win this season, with the doubles teams of Andreas Hansen/Tim Heslin and Carlos Matarredona Valor/Kyle Johnson each picking up a doubles win this season.
First serve for the Battle of the Boulevard against Lipscomb on Friday will take place at 6 p.m. at Richland Country Club. Sunday's match against North Alabama will take place in Nashville's Hadley Park at 11 a.m.
