Bellarmine/Chattanooga Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team continues its road trip this weekend, facing Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky. on Friday and at Chattanooga on Sunday.

Belmont fell short in its 2021 opening match of the season against Vanderbilt on Sunday, with the Commodores defeating the Bruins 6-1.

Junior Arthur Toledo was named OVC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday by the conference, defeating Vanderbilt's Max Freeman on Sunday. Toledo won the first set 6-1 and took the match with a 7-5 victory in set three. Toledo's win marked the second consecutive season where a Belmont men's tennis player claimed a victory over an opponent from a Power 5 school.

In its first season competing in NCAA Division I, Bellarmine is off to a 1-5 start. They are led by Cole Groetsch and Sam Rueff in singles, who have picked up two singles wins each. Groetsch and Evan Bottorff lead the doubles portion of the team, collecting a 3-3 record to start the season.

Chattanooga is looking for its first win of the season after dropping its first two matches to Power 5 powerhouses Clemson and Alabama. Including the fall season, Chattanooga's Tomas Rodriguez has already picked up 10 wins. Turner Voges and Peyton Gatti have also added six wins, with Voges and Simon Labbe leading the doubles portion for the Mocs with an 8-4 record.

First serve will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday at Bellarmine and at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Chattanooga. Live stats and video will be available for Sunday's match courtesy of Chattanooga.
