NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team takes on Radford and Carson-Newman this weekend as part of its home non-conference matches.
Belmont takes on Radford at Belmont's brand new outdoor tennis facility at 9 a.m. on Friday with limited attendance, taking on Carson-Newman on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Hadley Park.
The Bruins are currently 4-1 on the year and are coming off back-to-back 7-0 sweeps over Alabama State and Alabama A&M, marking the first time in the last 10 seasons where the Bruins have collected back-to-back 7-0 sweeps. Senior Marko Ilic scored his 48th career singles victory, needing just two more to move into a tie for ninth in program history with Willy Sandoval (1998-2002). Ilic also collected his second Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Diego Castro, Arthur Toledo and Alfred Wallin all lead the Bruins with four singles wins on the season, with Belmont finishing 21-9 in singles matches in 2021. Ilic and Taisei Miyamoto lead the doubles portion for Belmont with a 4-1 record on the season.
Radford is currently 3-3 overall as a team, with Yevhen Sirous and Konstantinos Raptis leading the singles portion of the team with four wins each on the year. Having three different doubles teams collecting a pair of wins on the season, Radford has an 8-5 record in doubles this year.
Carson-Newman is currently 4-5 on the season, with Gabriel Dabdab and Marc Janse leading the way with five singles wins on the season. Dabdab/Ids Waterbolk lead the doubles portion with four wins in 2021.
Due to COVID-19, Belmont University will adhere to the approved Metro Public Health Department event plan and will only allow a limited number of family members of Belmont tennis team student-athletes to attend spring 2021 home outdoor Belmont tennis matches. NO SPECTATORS are permitted at Hadley Park for Saturday's matches.
