NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team will take on Lipscomb in the Battle of the Boulevard at Belmont on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Belmont defeated Carson-Newman 4-0 on Saturday night at Hadley Park, extending their winning streak to five matches.
Senior Marko Ilic picked up his fourth singles win of the season, needing just one more victory to move into a tie for ninth in program history with Willy Sandoval (1998-2002). Arthur Toledo and Tomas Luis also picked up singles wins on Saturday to help Belmont to a team victory.
In the doubles portion, Ilic/Taisei Miyamoto dominated their doubles match 6-0 while Diego Castro/Tomas Luis won their doubles match 6-2.
The Bruins won its first match of the Battle of the Boulevard on Feb. 12. With two tightly contested wins from doubles teams of Marko Ilic/Taisei Miyamoto and Diego Castro/Tomas Luis, Belmont quickly earned the first point of the match. After Lipscomb tied it up with its first singles win of the match, Arthur Toledo claimed his second singles victory of the season to help Belmont regain the team advantage 2-1.
Lipscomb took the match lead thanks to singles victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots and looked to claim the match, with its No. 5 and No. 6 spots leading 3-2 each. Castro and fellow freshman Alfred Wallin, however, climbed from behind to claim their individual victories and give Belmont the final two team points to take the match.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance at Belmont home tennis matches will be restricted to a small number of family members of the Belmont tennis team players.
