COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University baseball team dropped its midweek game on Tuesday at Tennessee Tech 11-4 in Cookeville.

Tuesday's game will not be reflected in the Ohio Valley Conference standings and was treated as a non-conference regular season game. Freshman Kevin Okins recorded his first career multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Sophomore John Behrends and junior Logan Jarvis joined Okins in the multi-hit column, recording two hits each. Junior Chandler Schultz led Belmont in pitching with a career-high five strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Starting the top of the first inning with two singles, an RBI single from Jarvis and a sacrifice fly from freshman Brodey Heaton allowed the Bruins to take an early 2-0 lead. After drawing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning, Tennessee Tech tied the score thanks to a two-run home run.

The Golden Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a solo home run to center field, with two singles in two of the next three at-bats giving Tennessee Tech a 4-2 advantage. Belmont got a runner on base in the next half-inning after a Tennessee Tech fielding error, scoring a run off an RBI double from Okins.

A hit by pitch and a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning put two more runners on for Tennessee Tech and the Golden Eagles capitalized off the opportunity, hitting a home run that scored three RBIs and pushed TTU out 7-3. Another single and hit by pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning set up another three-run shot, with the home run putting the Golden Eagles in front by seven runs.

Tennessee Tech scored its 11th run of the game thanks to a solo home run later in the bottom of the seventh, with a one-out walk putting a runner on base for Belmont in the top of the ninth inning. Jarvis scored Belmont's fourth run of the game with an RBI double to left field, but the Bruins were forced into a foul out and a strikeout in their final two at-bats that allowed Tennessee Tech to seal the win.

Belmont (6-10) returns to OVC play on Friday, making the short trip to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay at 5 p.m.
