NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday for a non-conference match against DePaul on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
Belmont was originally scheduled to play DePaul on Thursday, but the match got moved up due to inclement weather scheduled for Thursday.
Senior Marko Ilic claimed his sixth singles win of the season on Monday against Tennessee Tech, officially tying Javier Rodriguez (2004-09) for eighth on the program's all-time career singles wins list with 51. He needs just one more win to tie Renato Antun (2008-13), Felipe Abreu (2003-07) and Felipe Lima (2002-06) for fifth on the list.
Following Belmont claiming the doubles point and Ilic's singles victory on Monday, Tennessee Tech claimed the rest of the singles matches to score five points and force the Bruins into their first conference loss of the season.
DePaul has won five matches in a row thanks to the March 10 Oracle/ITA National Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Vito Tonejc who is the reigning BIG EAST Athlete of the Week for men's tennis. The Zagreb, Croatia native is 8-1 in singles primarily at the No. 1 position and has won seven consecutive matches
Tripp Tuff has an overall record of 8-2 and has come out on top his last three matches. Boris Spanjaard is 6-2 while his doubles partner, Christopher Casati, is 6-4 with a five-match winning streak and Luuk Wassenaar is off to a 5-3 start.
First serve is set for 3 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance at Belmont home tennis matches will be restricted to a small number of family members of the Belmont tennis team players.
