NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team returns to Ohio Valley Conference play on Monday, facing Austin Peay at 2 p.m. at the Belmont Tennis Complex.
Senior Marko Ilic claimed his seventh singles win of the season on Wednesday against DePaul, officially tying Renato Antun (2008-13), Felipe Abreu (2003-07) and Felipe Lima (2002-06) for fifth on the list on the program's career singles win list with 52 career wins. Ilic needs just two more to tie Rafael Matos (2008-12) for fourth on the program's career singles list.
Following Jake Briggs/Arthur Toledo's doubles victory, Ilic/Taisei Miyamoto fell short in their doubles match 6-1. The freshmen doubles team of Diego Castro/Tomas Luis, however, scored a 6-4 doubles victory to give Belmont the doubles point and the 1-0 lead against DePaul.
The Bruins responded by sweeping the singles portion of the match, with Ilic, Toledo, Luis, Castro, Miyamoto and freshman Alfred Wallin all picking up victories to give Belmont the sweep on Wednesday. Belmont scored its third 7-0 sweep of the season, marking the third one in their last six matches.
Austin Peay is off to a 1-7 start on the season, with Jacob Lorino leading the singles portion for the Governors with a 4-4 record. Anton Damberg/Frederi Schlossmann lead the doubles portion for Austin Peay with a pair of wins on the season.
First serve is set for 2 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance at Belmont home tennis matches will be restricted to a small number of family members of the Belmont tennis team players.
