NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team wraps up the regular season this weekend, taking on UAB on Saturday in Nashville and Jacksonville State on Sunday in Jacksonville, Ala.
Belmont is coming off a 7-0 at Tennessee State last week, marking the eighth consecutive season where Belmont has won at least 10 matches in a season. Senior Marko Ilic claimed his 55th career singles win 6-2, 6-1 victory, claiming fourth on the program's career singles wins list. Ilic needs just four more wins to tie Fausto Rocha (2004-09) for third on the program's career singles wins list.
With Ilic and senior Taisei Miyamoto's 6-1 doubles victory on Saturday, their 10th doubles win of the season moves them into a tie for 14th in program history with Robin Demasse/Bruno Russo (2014-15) and Fausto Rocha/Javier Rodriguez (2004-05) on the program's single season doubles victories list. Ilic/Miyamoto needed just one more doubles win to tie Rodrigo/Amaral (2008-09) and Matt Fitzpatrick/Michael Moretti (2003-04) for 12th on the program's single season doubles victories list.
UAB is 5-10 in the 2021 spring season, led by Michal Lusovsky in singles, who has an 8-5 record. Lusovsky and Roman Postolka lead the doubles portion for the Blazers, compiling a 7-4 record.
Jacksonville State is 8-6 overall and 1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play, with Maj Tomac and Joaquin Vallejo leading the singles portion with nine wins each. Tomac and Vallejo also form a dynamic doubles team, going 11-2 overall in the No. 3 spot.
First serve for Saturday is set for 11 a.m. at the Belmont Tennis Complex. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fan attendance at Belmont home tennis matches will be restricted to a small number of family members of the Belmont tennis team players.
