Tennessee State Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University men's tennis team makes a local road trip to Tennessee State to continue Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Hadley Park.

Belmont has a 9-3 overall record and is off to a 2-1 start in OVC play, recently coming up short on Monday 5-2 against Chattanooga. Junior Arthur Toledo picked up his 10th singles win of the season on Monday, winning his No. 2 singles match with a pair of 6-1 victories. Freshman Tomas Luis moved to 8-4 on the season in Monday's match, winning 7-5 in the first set and finishing set two with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles.

Despite Belmont getting two points from singles match victories from Toledo and Luis, Chattanooga swept the doubles portion of the match to claim the first point. The Mocs collected four singles victories to earn the final four points, winning the match by three points.

Senior Marko Ilic has claimed 54 career singles wins to date, tying Rafael Matos (2008-12) for fourth on the program's career singles wins list. Ilic needs just five more wins to tie Fausto Rocha (2004-09) for third on the program's career singles wins list.

Tennessee State has not won a match this season, starting the season 0-9 heading into Friday's match against Tennessee Tech. Diego Britt-Alvarez has claimed a pair of singles wins for the Tigers in 2021, but Tennessee State has not won a doubles match this season.

First serve is set for 9 a.m. at Hadley Park.
