NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Off to their best start since 2013, the Belmont University baseball team will look to carry the positive momentum into a four-game series against Youngstown State.

Game 1 of the series is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, before a doubleheader of two seven-inning contests kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the series wrapping up with a Sunday afternoon tilt at 1 p.m.

Friday and Sunday's games will be broadcast on the Bruin Sports Network, with live play-by-play provided by Dr. Rich Tiner. Live stats for all four of the weekend's contests will be available on BelmontBruins.com, and in-game updates will be posted on Twitter by @BelmontBaseball.

What's Bruin

  • On Wednesday night, head coach Dave Jarvis earned his 1,000th career win with the Bruins' 11-1 triumph over Middle Tennessee

  • The victory was Jarvis' 676th of his Belmont tenure (1998-present), combining with the 324 wins he earned while head coach at Three Rivers College (1985-1993) for the record milestone

  • Belmont has won four of their first five games behind dominant pitching performances from the entire staff. The Bruins are currently top 15 in NCAA Division I in earned run average (1.35).

  • Belmont has allowed just three total runs over their four-game win streak, and has not committed a fielding error since the season-opener against Toledo

  • With a win on Friday, Belmont would be out to their best start since 2010, when they won their first ten games

  • Probable starters on the mound this weekend for Belmont will be: RHP Joshua South (Friday), LHP Andy Bean (Saturday, Game 1), LHP Dominic Baratta (Saturday, Game 2), and LHP Jalen Borders (Sunday).

  • The Bruins are hitting .328 at the plate so far this season, tied for 38th in NCAA Division I.

  • Belmont has 11 stolen bases as a team, good for 13th in NCAA Division I. Seven of the stolen bags have come from sophomore outfielder Guy Lipscomb, who is tied for third in NCAA Division I in that category.

  • Lipscomb hit a leadoff home run on Opening Day, the first home run of his career, and is batting .467 with a team-high .800 slugging percentage.

  • Senior catcher Jackson Campbell and junior outfielder Carson Shacklett are both 9-for-15 at the plate this season (.600)

  • Senior infielder Logan Jarvis, ranked the No. 21 third-basemen in the country by D1Baseball, crushed a 400-foot home run last Sunday against Toledo for his first blast of the season

  • The Bruins had four players selected to the Preseason All-OVC Team, the most in the league and the most in program history: right-handed pitcher Joshua South, left-handed pitcher Andy Bean, outfielder John Behrends, and infielder Logan Jarvis

About the Penguins

  • Youngstown State is out to a 2-1 start, taking their opening series over Bethune Cookman on the road last weekend (1-3, 7-6, 10-9)

  • Probable starters for this weekend's series will be: RHP Jon Snyder (Friday), RHP Travis Perry (Saturday, Game 1) RHP Chad Coles (Saturday, Game 2), and RHP Matt Brosky (Sunday).

  • Senior right-hander Jon Snyder was picked as the 2022 Horizon League Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game. Snyder was a Second-Team All-Conference selection in 2021 after going 6-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.

  • Youngstown State was picked to finish fourth in the 2022 Preseason Horizon League Poll. Wright State was voted as the favorite.

Series History

  • Belmont and Youngstown State have met for two prior series, both in 2016 and 2018 at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville

  • The Bruins lead the all-time series, 4-2

  • The Bruins and Penguins last met on Opening Weekend in 2018, with Belmont dropping the opener, 8-4, before winning 5-2 and 5-1 to clinch the series.
