NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont University men's tennis team turned in focused and fundamentally sound finishes to stand tall over the visiting Georgia Southern Eagles, 7-0.
Starting with doubles, the Bruins wasted no time in turning on the jets. Opening the excellence was the pair at number three, senior Taisei Miyamoto and sophomore Alfred Wallin. In short order, the pair beat Laurent Julia Calac and Dimitris Paliouras. Over on court one, sophomores Diego Castro and Tomas Luis found a groove. The number one duo took home their second dual win in their last three matches together.
Finally on court two, junior Jack Randall and senior Arthur Toledo pulled through in a close match over Pol Del Castillo Masich and Alex Suk to seal a sweep in doubles.
The momentum continued in singles, as the Bruins got their first of five two-set sweeps from Luis. The sophomore sliced his way to a 6-1, 6-2 win. After him, Toledo came up big on court one against the fiery Del Castillo Masich, who was 5-1 in singles play entering the match.
After Toledo took care of business, it was the reining OVC player of the week's turn. Ian Cruz left it all on the court as he pulled in his fourth spring win. Once the match was sealed, Wallin, Randall and Miyamoto all finished victorious matches to complete the commanding performance at Hadley Park.
Belmont (4-3) returns to action on Friday, March 4 against Cumberland.
