WKU Preview

• After rattling off ten straight wins from Feb. 19 to March 6, the Bruins have lost four of their last six games 

• Belmont is coming off a series loss on the road at UAB. The Bruins won the first game, 2-1, before falling, 9-8 and 6-3, to wrap up the three-game set. 

• Jordan Zuger is the projected starter on the mound for Belmont on Tuesday. The freshman from Hendersonville, Tenn., has started all three midweek games this season for the Bruins and is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. 

• Belmont is 3-0 in midweek games this season, with victories over Middle Tennessee, Lipscomb, and Evansville 

• The Bruins' last midweek opponent, Evansville, just swept No. 18 Tulane on the road in three games over the weekend after losing to Belmont, 7-4, at E.S. Rose Park last Wednesday 

• Kyle Brennan picked up his eighth save of the season on Friday in the Bruins' 2-1 win over UAB. The senior from Franklin, Tenn., currently leads the country in the category. Brennan currently has 25 career saves, one behind Jon Ivie (2008-11), who owns the all-time program record with 26 career saves. 

• Sophomore center fielder Guy Lipscomb currently ranks second in the country in stolen bases (15), and has only been caught once 

• Junior designated hitter Tommy Crider had the first multi-homer game of his career last Wednesday against Evansville, hitting a three-run bomb and a two-run shot for a career-high five RBIs. 

• Junior right fielder John Behrends is 4-for-7 across two games with a home run, a double, two RBIs, and two walks since moving to the seven-hole in the lineup. The Chattanooga native was a Preseason All-OVC selection but had been hitting .192 in the first 15 games while batting second in the order. 

• Belmont is 10-3 at home this year 

About the Hilltoppers  

• WKU will be the third opponent Belmont faces from Conference USA this year (Middle Tennessee, UAB) 

• WKU was picked to finish 9th in the Conference USA Preseason Poll. The Hilltoppers finished 6th in 2021. 

• WKU is out to an 8-7 start, and is coming off a 2-1 series loss to Illinois  

• Freshman catcher Ty Batusich has been the best bat for the Hilltoppers, hitting .354 with 5 home runs and 19 RBIs 

• WKU got their biggest win of the season in a midweek game on March 1, taking down SEC foe Kentucky 

• Belmont will travel to Bowling Green on April 5 to finish out the season series with WKU 

Series History 

• Belmont and WKU have met 50 times in the Bruins' NCAA Division I era, with the series evenly split, 25-25 

• WKU leads the all-time series, 35-33 

• The first meeting came in 1954, with WKU winning 8-7 

• WKU has won eight of the last ten meetings 

• Belmont won the last meeting, 9-7 in 2020 at E.S. Rose Park. Jackson Campbell and Logan Jarvis each went 3-for-5 in the win.
