NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont Bruins men's tennis team kept their shine with their fourth straight win over Dayton 6-1 earlier today.
Before the match, Director Mauricio Antun stressed the importance of playing tough. Dayton was scorching with their own four-match win streak entering the BTC.
In doubles, Belmont brought all their tricks and toughness to the court. Fast as a flame, the Bruins secured point one with equal 6-2 triumphs. Up first on pair one, Diego Castro and Tomas Luis won their third straight doubles match. After that, court three's terrifying tandem of Taisei Miyamoto and Alfred Wallin brought home the bacon.
Up 1-0 against the Flyers, singles saw the Bruins blow away Dayton early and stand tall against the talented Flyers.
Needing just three victories to seal the match, Belmont got two-set wins on five different courts. Arthur Toledo took home the match in two sets against the Flyers' strong number one option Connor Bruce. Ian Cruz, in his second match as the third option, beat Matt Demarco with impressive pace and control to capture win number seven. Miyamoto wasn't messing around against Eric Perkowski in his seventh win of the spring. Joining Miyamoto and Cruz at the top, Wallin came away from another two-set takedown on court six.
But the most gutsy win belonged to Luis. On court two, down 3-0 in set one, Luis left it all on the court and slid his way past Ronit Hiryur in two rounds.
Belmont's win ended the Dayton FLyers four-match win streak to drop the Flyers to 10-6. Meanwhile, Belmont has jumped up to 7-3 with one non-conference match left. On Sunday at eleven a.m. the Bruins will host Alabama A&M to wrap up non-OVC play.
