What's Bruin

  • Belmont began a stretch of nine straight road games with their contest against No. 24 Alabama on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa, the longest stretch of road games this season

  • Belmont kept Tuesday's game close throughout, and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but fell, 3-1, for their second loss on the season to a top-25 opponent

  • At 21-12, Belmont is off to their best record through 33 games since 2013

  • The Bruins are out to a 7-2 start in conference play, with series wins over their first three Ohio Valley Conference opponents (2-1 over Austin Peay, 3-0 over Murray State, 2-1 over Tennessee Tech)

  • In Belmont's lone road conference series this season, they swept Murray State in three games across April 1-3, outscoring the Racers 34-13

  • With a win on Thursday, the Bruins would match their best start to conference play since 2019, when they began OVC action 8-2

  • Senior closer Kyle Brennan is currently tied for the most saves in the country with 11 on the season. The native of Franklin, Tenn., is the program's all-time leader in career saves, with 28.

  • Belmont's projected rotation this weekend will be: RHP Joshua South (4-1, 5.44 ERA) on Thursday, LHP Andy Bean (5-1, 3.92 ERA) on Friday, and LHP Jalen Borders (2-2, 2.62 ERA) on Saturday.

  • Bean, a sophomore from Fisherville, Tenn., was named OVC Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 11 after throwing eight strong innings with seven strikeouts and just one run allowed against Tennessee Tech in a series-clinching 4-1 win last Saturday

  • In three conference starts, Borders is 1-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 16.1 innings

  • Belmont is currently 7th in the nation in fielding percentage (.984) and 9th in the nation in stolen bases (70)

  • Guy Lipscomb is currently 2nd in the country in stolen bases (28), and is two stolen bases shy of tying Matt Reynolds for the most stolen bases in a single season in program history (30, 2005)

  • In addition to stolen bases, Lipscomb currently leads the team in batting average (.391), on-base percentage (.478), slugging percentage (.539), hits (45), and triples (3).

  • Leadoff hitter Carson Shacklett has been outstanding at the plate, hitting .364 with a sparkling .461 on-base percentage while playing stellar defense in left field

  • As the weather has gotten warmer, so too has the bat of John Behrends, who is hitting .400 in conference play with 4 doubles and 9 RBIs

  • Tommy Crider has two multi-homer games this season (March 9 vs. Evansville, April 2 at Murray State), and Brodey Heaton has one multi-homer game this season (April 1 at Murray State)

  • The 2022 season marks the final OVC campaign for Belmont, as the university will join the Missouri Valley Conference effective July 1, 2022

  • Head coach Dave Jarvis recorded his 1,000th career victory on Feb. 23 with an 11-1 victory over Middle Tennessee
