Men's Track and Field Begins Balanced at Commodore Challenge

Bruins place two vaulters inside top 10

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's track and field team was in action indoors Friday as the Bruins began their 2022-23 season at Vanderbilt University's Commodore Challenge. Highlighted by a balanced showing in pole vault, Belmont's indoor season opening day saw nine Bruins in action inside the nearby Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility. 

Payton Culp (4.65m) claimed 8th in pole vault while Knox Perry earned 11th with the same score. Trey Collins and Nick Bazzoni tied for 13th, clearing 4.50m. 

To open the day, Noah Grimm (1.96m) claimed third in the high jump. 

Collins (6.66m) also competed in the long jump where he earned eighth. 

Jackson Grant (14.70m) and Robert Joseph (14.63m) came in 12th and 13th respectively in the weight throw. 

In running events, Wyatt Womack (1:26.07) started things off earning 18th in the mid-distance 600m.  

Eric Toviave (36.68) in 17th and Garrett Horowitz (39.57) in the 300m finished off the day for the Bruins. 

Saturday will conclude the two-day Commodore Challenge as the Bruins compete in the shot put, 60m hurdles, one mile run, 400m and 800m. 

The Bruins will compete in shot put, 60m, 60m H, one mile run, 400m, 800m and 3000m. Jackson Grant and Robert Joseph will get the day started at noon, as the 4x400m will be the final event of the Commodore Challenge late Saturday afternoon.
