NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont University Track & Field heads south this weekend for high-level competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas and the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State University.
Â
Many Bruins are coming off a break in competition, after the distance team competed at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State last weekend.
Select participants will represent Belmont at the Texas Relays. The meet takes place over four days, April 1-4, with Bruins to compete on April 2 and 3.
Jennifer Mims will race the 400m hurdles on Thursday. Then on Friday,Â
Aiyah Siggers will compete in the 100m hurdles and
Jayce Gray and
Jayden Gray will compete in the 100m.
Â
The same athletes will also compete at Texas State, along with more of their teammates. Bruins will compete on all three days of the Thursday-Saturday meet.
According to Associate Head Coach
Cameron Harvey, the whole team is excited to see what they can do this weekend.
"The sprints/jumps/throws athletes always look forward to competing at meets like Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational. It's a great opportunity to compete against some top competition in the country this weekend. The goal is to go out there, make some noise and come back with some solid marks to set up the rest of the outdoor season. The crew has been training pretty hard since indoor championships and we're all excited to see some of it pay off this weekend," says Harvey.
On Thursday at Texas State, the women's heptathalon begins for Carlota Salgado García, and
Kate Briscoe and
Maggie Swarr compete in the javelin throw.
Friday sees more field events in the early afternoon, including
Andrew Taylor in the high jump and
Jack Perry in the pole vault, with
Jennifer Mims' 400m hurdles and multiple runners in the 200m to follow later in the day. The heptathalon also concludes on Friday with the 800m.
Closing out the meet on Saturday will be
Aiyah Siggers in the 100m hurdles,
Tezz Dozier and
Tyler Nunn in the 400m, and
Jayce Gray and
Jayden Gray in the 100m.
Â
Both meets will have live results available through AthleticLIVE. More information can be found through host schools' meet central pages.
