NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont University Men's Track & Field is set to compete at the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Indianapolis starting March 1.
Â
The championship will take place over two days at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds & Event Center, where the Bruins will have the chance to compete against top-ranked Northern Iowa and Indiana State.
Â
The Bruins placed seventh in last year's competition, with several notable performances including
Jayce Gray's school record-setting performance in the 60m.
Â
Multiple returning student-athletes are expected to have impressive showings at this year's championship, including
Matty Mackay,
Andrew Hammel,
Jack Perry, and Vince Flegeance.
Graduate runner
Matty Mackay broke the school record in the 5,000m at the Bruins' most recent meet, and is looking forward to more strong performances in both the 3,000m and 5,000m. Distance runner
Andrew Hammel is also slated to compete in both of these events, after placing 4th in the 5,000m at last year's championships.
Men's Distance Coach and Track & Field Director
Jeff Langdon comments on Mackay's chances at conference, saying, "Matty has had a strong indoor track season. He has had a really consistent training block since the first of the year. We haven't set any goals, nor do I have any real expectations, but he is running well with a ton of confidence right now. The 5K field is very strong, but he is ready to get in and compete for the title. He will also come back to race the 3K the next day with hopes of scoring some points for the team."
After earning 5th place in the 2025 competition,
Jack Perry has continued to make impressive marks in the pole vault, placing in the top 10 at both of his meets this season.
Vince Flegeance will be making a big return at the championships after breaking the Belmont school record in the men's 60m hurdles at the Bruins' first meet of the indoor season in December.
"Vince is in a good spot to score in the 60 hurdles. It's a real tight race with the top six guys separated by less than a tenth of a second. He started the season hot, had some hiccups during the middle of the season, but I feel like we're back in the groove going into conference. Hopefully it leads to a good result this weekend," says head Track & Field Coach
Cameron Harvey.
