Baseball Continues Homestand With Tuesday Matchup Against Southern Indiana

Bruins Enter Last Game Before Conference Play Having Won Five of Last Six

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Belmont University baseball team continues their homestand on Tuesday with a midweek clash against first-year NCAA Division I foe Southern Indiana. 

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at E.S. Rose Park. 

The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with audio simulcast to Belmont Bruins Radio on iHeartRadio. Live stats will be available on BelmontBruins.com, and in-game highlights will be posted to Twitter by @BelmontBaseball. 

Admission to all games at E.S. Rose Park is free. 

What's Bruin 

  • Belmont is coming off their first sweep of the season, a four-game series win over Lindenwood over the weekend 

  • The Bruins took down the Lions, 9-0, 5-1, 9-7, and 3-0 to improve to .500 for the first time since Opening Weekend, when they went 2-2 against UT Martin 

  • On the weekend, Belmont's pitching staff allowed just five earned runs, finishing with a 1.69 ERA over four games 

  • Junior outfielder Jeff Clarke went 4-for-5 and finished a double shy of the cycle in Friday's win over Lindenwood. For the week, the native of Irving, Texas, went 7-for-17 with three RBIs while slugging .765 

  • Tuesday's presumed starter on the mound is freshman right-hander Joe Ruzicka (0-2, 8.10 ERA) 

  • Tuesday is Belmont's final game before starting conference play at E.S. Rose Park on Friday when they start a three-game series against Illinois State 

  • Belmont is 2-3 in midweek games this season, with wins over Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb 

  • Junior first baseman Brodey Heaton owns 125 career RBIs, and is five away from passing Tyler Walsh (2014-17) from moving into the top-10 in the program's Division I-era 

  • Heaton hails from Newburgh, Indiana, which is about 15 miles from USI's campus 

  • Sophomore catcher Blake Barton is second in the MVC in doubles (8) 

  • Junior infielder Mason Landers is tied for third in the MVC in home runs (5), ninth in hits (24), and ninth in RBIs (16) 

  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Will Pryor made his first collegiate start on the mound on Sunday, finishing with six shutout innings and six strikeouts 

  • Belmont is second in the MVC in strikeouts (178) 

  • The NCAA released their first RPI report of the season on Monday, with the Missouri Valley Conference ranking seventh overall behind the SEC, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten and Sun Belt. 

About the Screaming Eagles 

  • Southern Indiana is in their first year in NCAA Division I after previously being in Division II, and is in their first year as members of the Ohio Valley Conference 

  • The Screaming Eagles are coming off a sweep at the hands of Murray State on the road this past weekend
