Baseball Travels To Evansville For Important MVC Road Series

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- After their longest stretch without a game of the entire season, the Belmont University baseball team returns to action this weekend with a road series against Evansville at German American Bank Field. 

After a pair of weather-related changes to the schedule, Belmont will now play the series opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will take on the Purple Aces in a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. 

All three games will be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats will be available on BelmontBruins.com. 

What's Bruin 

• By the time the series kicks off on Saturday, Belmont will have gone six days since their last game on Sunday, March 26, their longest stretch with no games of the entire season 

• Belmont entered conference play in the Missouri Valley Conference for the first time in program history last weekend, taking two out of three games from Illinois State at E.S. Rose Park 

• The Bruins won, 2-0 and 6-3, in the first two games before falling on Sunday, 11-7 

• The Sunday defeat snapped a seven-game winning streak 

• Last year, Belmont won all four of their road conference series on the way to the OVC Regular Season championship 

• Junior pitcher Andy Bean delivered one of the best performances on the mound in recent program history last Friday, tossing a complete game, two-hit shutout against Illinois State 

• Bean recorded six strikeouts and threw only 102 pitches across nine innings, his third complete game of his career and the fifth shutout by a Bruin pitcher in a conference game since 2013 

• D1Baseball recognized Bean's outing as the third-best across all of NCAA Division I baseball for Week Six, and the team captain was named MVC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season 

• Junior first baseman Brodey Heaton owns 127 career RBIs, and is three away from passing Tyler Walsh (2014-17) for tenth-most in Belmont's NCAA-era 

• Redshirt freshman two-way player Ethan Harden has a 0.57 ERA in nine appearances on the mound, with 12 strikeouts to only two walks in 15 2/3 innings. The Franklin, Tenn., native is also second in the MVC in saves (4). 

• Junior shortstop Sam Kirkpatrick ranks sixth in the MVC in batting average (.352) 

• Belmont leads the MVC in ERA (4.66) and is second in opponent batting average (.261) 

• Belmont pitching coach A.J. Gaura spent three seasons as the pitching coach at Evansville (2019-2021) prior to arriving in Nashville 

• Belmont's series win over Kansas on March 3-5 this season was the first home series win over a Power Five opponent since 2001 

About the Purple Aces 

• Evansville swept Missouri State last weekend to open Missouri Valley Conference play 

• The Purple Aces had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday in a 10-4 loss to SEMO 

• Evansville has won their last five series in a row, and have not lost a series since Opening Weekend against Troy 

• Evansville is 8-2 at home this season 

• Purple Ace standout Chase Hug currently leads the MVC in on-base percentage (.571), and is second in batting average (.414) and second in slugging percentage (.713) 

• Eric Roberts leads the MVC in home runs (10) and RBIs (33) 

• Evansville has the best run-scoring offense in the MVC (175)  

Series History 

• Belmont leads the all-time series with Evansville, 14-3 

• The two programs have met every season since 2010 with the exception of 2011 and 2021 

• Belmont won both games last year, 7-4 in Nashville and 8-2 in Evansville
