Baseball Welcomes Indiana State for Pivotal MVC Series at Home

Bruins Host First-Place Sycamores This Weekend at E.S. Rose Park

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For a third straight week, the Belmont University baseball team will face a team tied for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference when they host Indiana State in a three-game series this weekend at E.S. Rose Park. 

The action gets started on Friday at 4 p.m., with a cooler bag giveaway beginning an hour prior to first pitch. The series continues on Saturday at 2 p.m., and concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m., with the Mental Health Awareness game. 

Friday and Sunday's games will be streamed on ESPN+, and live audio play-by-play from Dr. Rich Tiner will be broadcast all series long on Belmont Bruins Radio on iHeartRadio. Live stats will be available on BelmontBruins.com, and in-game highlights will be posted to Twitter by @BelmontBaseball. 

Admission to all games at E.S. Rose Park is free. 

What's Bruin 

  • Belmont is coming off a thrilling 12-6 road victory over Austin Peay on Tuesday night 

  • The Bruins scored eight unanswered runs, including two in the eighth inning and six in the ninth inning, to come back and grab their 19th win of the season 

  • Four of Belmont's last five games have featured the go-ahead run being scored in the final inning 

  • Three of Belmont's last five games have gone to extra innings 

  • Dating back to the end of the 2021 season, Belmont has won five of their last six home conference series 

  • Belmont is 13-7 at home this season, and is 59-30 over the last four seasons at E.S. Rose Park 

  • Junior outfielder Sam Slaughter is 6-for-17 (.353) over his last six games with five doubles and a home run 

  • Last weekend, junior pitcher Andy Bean became the 11th pitcher in program history to eclipse 200 career strikeouts 

  • Bean, a native of Fisherville, Tenn., is currently tied with former teammate Joshua South for the 8th-most career victories in Belmont's NCAA-era (18), one shy of tying former teammate Kyle Brennan for 6th-most (19) 

  • Junior third baseman Mason Landers hit his seventh home run of the season on Tuesday night, launching a three-run blast to left field in the ninth inning to put the game on ice 

  • Junior shortstop Sam Kirkpatrick is batting .377 at home this season with two home runs, four doubles, and 12 RBIs 

  • In five home starts, junior pitcher Dominic Baratta is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 27.1 innings 

  • Belmont's bullpen has been the best in the MVC this season, with Will Pryor (2.67 ERA), Simon Tesh (1.33 ERA), Ethan Harden (1.44 ERA), Jett Thielke (4.24 ERA), and Caleb Guisewite (4.58 ERA) helping Belmont go 12-0 when leading after five innings 

  • Harden, a redshirt freshman from Franklin, Tenn., has started 24 games in the outfield and at designated hitter and has appeared in 13 games as a pitcher, ranking second in the MVC in saves (5) as Belmont's closer 

  • Sophomore catcher Blake Barton ranks second in the MVC in doubles (12) leads all MVC catchers in hits (36) and total bases (66) 

  • Belmont leads the MVC in stolen bases (42) 

About the Sycamores 

  • Indiana State enters the weekend on a seven-game winning streak having won 11 of their last 12 games 

  • The Sycamores are 8-1 in conference play with series wins over Valparaiso, UIC, and Illinois State 

  • Over the seven-game win streak, Indiana State pitchers have a 2.11 ERA 

  • Indiana State is ranked 26th in RPI entering this weekend's series, the highest mark in the MVC. The Sycamores have the No. 1-rated non-conference strength of schedule in the country 

  • Indiana State ranks seventh in NCAA Division I in fielding percentage (.985) 

  • Friday starter Matt Jachec is the reigning MVC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game shutout last week against Illinois State
