CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Belmont men's track and field team finished its first day of the Flames Invitational held Friday at Lee University and saw eight Bruins finish in the top 10 or better in their competitions.  Â
Belmont currently sits in fourth place with 39 total points after day one.Â
The Bruins' top finisher was Knox Perry who earned the top spot in pole vault, clearing 4.55m. Payton Culp claimed a second-place finish, clearing 4.45m.Â
Robert Joseph and Jackson Grant competed in the hammer throw. Joseph earned seventh, with a heave of 44.97m while Grant finished 10th, throwing 41.17m.Â
In the discus throw, Grant grabbed the fourth spot, throwing 43.43m.Â
Noah Grimm was the lone Bruin to compete in high jump where he claimed second place with a jump of 2.00m.
In sprints action, Jayden Gray and Mathew Miller ran in the 200m. Gray finished in 22.39 while Miller followed in 22.75m.Â
Two Bruins competed in the 10,000m. Jacob Ricks finished sixth overall with an impressive time of 29:54.19. Zac Shaffer crossed the line in 30:40.16.Â
Three Bruins ran in the 1500m. Kevin Vanderkolk headlined by earning sixth in 3:53.24 while Joel Wolf came in 3:59.24 and Gavin Morrow finished in 4:04.06.Â
In the 5000m, Jack Zettl finished in 14:42.07 and Noah Epker followed in 15:20.41.Â
Eric Toviave finished in 57.78 while competing in the 400m hurdles.Â
The second and final day of the Flames Invitational begins Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with the javelin throw and continues through the afternoon, concluding with the 4x400m relays. Â
