Men's Track and Field Continues to Collect Hardware at MVC Outdoor Championships

Bruins Grab Third Place in 3000m Steeplechase and Earn Several Personal Bests

NORMAL, Ill. -- After experiencing a weather delay in the middle of competition on Saturday, the Belmont University men's track and field team completed its second day of action at the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Bruins have been active on the podium on both days, with Kevin Vanderkolk earning the latest medal to close out Saturday's running events.

Competing in the 3000m steeplechase, Vanderkolk finished third with a time of 9:11.72, earning six points for Belmont in team scoring. Zach Brill also ran in the steeple, finishing in 9:36.12, with Garrett Hesselgesser closing out the race in 9:45.06. 

Ian Robertson began action for Belmont on Saturday, continuing his trials in the decathlon. After completing the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and the 1500m, he finished sixth overall with 5,507 points, which tops his previous personal best by 103 points.

As the lone Bruin in shot put, Jackson Grant impressed with an impressive 16.12m launch for a new personal best.

In the 800m, Gavin Morrow marked a new personal best as he finished in 1:55.19.

Trey Collins took on the long jump where he jumped 6.59m.

Noah Grimm, who was the last Bruin to compete after delays, made his mark by jumping 2.01m in the high jump.

Eric Toviave notched a new personal best in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 55.22, securing a spot in Sunday's finals.

After two days of competition, the Bruins sit in seventh place with 25 total points.
