Women’s Track and Field Wraps Up Weekend at PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational

A Weekend of Top-5 Placements and PRs for the Bruins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Belmont University Women's Track & Field team spent the weekend at Louisville competing in the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational. The field, which consisted of 57 schools including multiple from the Power Four level, gave the Bruins another chance to elevate their performance among the region's best.

The Bruin women's first placement of the weekend was by Alexa Fortman in the 800m Open. Fortman placed 2nd in the heat and 5th overall with a time of 2:12.40.

Friday also saw personal bests for Jennifer Mims and Carlota Salgado García. Mims' record was in the 400m, where she ran a 56.76. Salgado García threw 10.35 meters in the pentathalon shot put to earn her PR.

To end the day, freshman Sophie Nicholls placed 5th of 59 finishers in the 3000m with a time of 9:34.12.

On Saturday, another distance freshman Alex Lancaster earned a PR in the mile, running a 5:34.68.

The Bruins will return to action Feb. 13-14 at Vanderbilt for the Indoor Music City Challenge.
