BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Belmont Baseball begins the 2026 season this weekend as the Bruins travel to Samford for a three-game series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for Friday, February 13th at 2:00 p.m and second at 5:30 pm.
Head coach Dave Jarvis enters his 29th season at the helm, returning a strong core of veterans and welcoming an exciting group of newcomers. Belmont looks to build on last season's momentum with a balanced roster featuring experienced pitching, defensive versatility, and proven production at the plate.
Belmont has a total of 18 newcomers on the team with 9 being freshman and 9 transfers.
Belmont's lineup will be paced by several established offensive threats. Preseason All-Conference selection Charlie Davis anchors the infield after a junior campaign where he slashed .315/.410/.550 with 12 home runs. Outfielder Michael Lareau brings speed and defensive range, creating opportunities at the top of the order, while Senior Infielder Landon Godsey adds middle-of-the-lineup production after finishing among the team leaders in RBIs (46). The Bruins also expect contributions from a talented freshman class that impressed throughout fall workouts and preseason scrimmages.
On the mound, Belmont features a mix of experience and depth. Opening Day starter Owen Cavey headlines the rotation after Transferring from Ashland University, demonstrating command and durability. Andrew Perry anchors the bullpen as one of the team's most reliable late-inning arms holding the lowest ERA (3.66) of returning pitchers for the Bruins, and several other returning pitchers provide valuable versatility in key roles. The Bruins enter opening weekend confident in their ability to compete in every game.
History vs. Samford
- Belmont leads the series vs Samford 1-0.
- The last match up being a 9-4 win in 2020 at E. S. Rose Park.
This weekend's series marks the first opportunity for Belmont to test itself against non-conference competition and set the tone for the 2026 campaign.
