Women's Track & Field Gears Up for MVC Indoor Championships

Bruins Look to Make Waves in Indianapolis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont University Women's Track & Field will head to Indianapolis on March 1 for the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships.

The championship will take place over two days at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds and Event Center, where the Bruins will have the chance to compete against top-ranked Indiana State and Illinois State.

The Bruins placed sixth in last year's competition, earning an impressive seven podium finishes and setting two school records.

Returning student-athlete Alexa Fortman made a strong showing in 2025, placing 3rd in the 800m, and is expected to perform well at this year's event.

Fortman has been an indoor standout this season, with multiple top-10 finishes in middle-distance events such as the 600m, 800m, and 1000m. Last season, Fortman shattered multiple school records in middle-distance competitions.

Also to look out for are sophomore Jennifer Mims and freshman newcomer Sophie Nicholls.

Mims will be competing in the 400m, after setting a new personal record in the event earlier this season, and placing 3rd at the Indoor Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt on February 14th.

Distance runner Sophie Nicholls is in the midst of a successful season, after placing top-10 in both of her most recent races. Nicholls is slated to compete in both the 3,000m and 5,000m at the MVC Championships.

"Sophie's been an incredible teammate and leader since she stepped foot on campus. It's been awesome to work with her and learn alongside her. She's been consistent and patient with the work and I think that's paying off and will continue to. We've had a lot of fun this season too and that's an important piece of this," says Women's Distance Coach Hannah Brookover. "Our focus has been learning how to race well, putting ourselves in a good position, staying composed, and being ready when we need to be," continues Brookover. "She works hard and loves to compete. We will mix it up in the front and compete hard this weekend. A lot can happen in these types of race settings, and we will be ready. That's the mentality we will go into the weekend with. Overall, I'm pumped up for Sophie and the whole team this weekend."

A complete listing of participants, event schedule, and meet information can be found here on the championship central website.

The championship will be live streamed on ESPN+.
