NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont baseball returns to midweek action Tuesday night as the Bruins host the Battle of the Boulevard against Lipscomb University at E.S. Rose Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. as Belmont looks to split the season series in one of Middle Tennessee's longest-standing baseball rivalries.
Belmont enters the contest at 8-16 overall following its opening conference weekend, while the Bruins continue searching for momentum after losing 5 straight games. Tuesday's matchup presents another opportunity for Belmont to reset before returning to conference play.
What's Bruin
Belmont's offense has been led throughout the spring by sophomore first baseman Brady Holbrook, who enters the week with a team-best .425 batting average. Holbrook has collected 17 hits in just 40 at-bats, adding two home runs, seven RBI and a .489 on-base percentage. He has reached base safely in 14 of his 16 appearances this season and continues to provide consistency in the middle of the lineup.
Landon Godsey remains one of Belmont's top run producers, batting .326 with 28 hits, 10 doubles and 21 RBI through 24 games. His extra-base production has helped anchor the Bruins offensively, as he leads Belmont in doubles and ranks among team leaders in slugging percentage at .547.
Charlie Davis has also supplied steady production near the top of the order, hitting .311 with a team-high 32 hits, 20 runs scored and four triples. Davis continues to pressure defenses with his speed and has added four stolen bases.
Cavan McMeans brings power to the lineup with four home runs and 18 RBI, while First Baseman Jake Maddox has contributed 21 hits and remains one of Belmont's most reliable defensive pieces behind the plate.
Belmont's pitching staff has shown flashes of depth in recent weeks, particularly in midweek roles.
Freshman McKale Stevenson has emerged as one of Belmont's most effective options out of the bullpen and received his first start this weekend, carrying a 3.10 ERA across nine appearances. Stevenson owns 19 strikeouts in 20.1 innings and has earned two wins this season.Â
Ridge Harvey continues to serve in a high-leverage bullpen role with three saves and 16 strikeouts over 14.1 innings. He also received his first start this weekend against Illinois State.
Belmont enters Tuesday with a .969 fielding percentage and has turned 11 double plays this season. The left side of the infield has remained particularly steady, led by McMeans, who owns a .989 fielding percentage with just one error in 88 chances. Holbrook has been flawless defensively at first base, converting all 27 opportunities cleanly.
