NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont baseball prepares for its second meeting of the season against Middle Tennessee, looking to take the series sweep in the midweek matchup.
The Bruins enter the contest at 13-23 overall and are coming off a strong bounce-back win over East Tennessee State in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. After dropping its first two games, Belmont responded with a high-powered offensive performance to secure the split, providing momentum heading into Tuesday's in-state clash.
Offensively, Belmont continues to be led by one of the most consistent bats in the lineup in Charlie Davis. Davis is hitting a team-best .358 with 53 hits, 12 doubles, four triples, and three home runs while driving in 26 runs and scoring 31. His ability to get on base (.414 OBP) and create scoring opportunities at the top of the order has been a catalyst for the Bruins.
Brady Holbrook has also been a key contributor, batting .352 with 32 hits and 16 RBIs while providing steady defense. Landon Godsey and Cavan McMeans add power in the middle of the lineup, combining for 13 home runs and 57 RBIs. Godsey leads the team with seven home runs and owns a .545 slugging percentage, while McMeans has tallied six home runs and 29 RBIs. Jake Maddox has also been productive, driving in 21 runs while contributing extra-base hits throughout the season.
As a team, Belmont is hitting .265 with 33 home runs and 177 RBIs, showing the ability to produce runs in bunches when timely hitting comes together.
On the mound, the Bruins will look for consistency as they face a Middle Tennessee lineup that can apply pressure offensively. McKale Stevenson has been one of Belmont's most reliable arms, posting a 2.43 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 33.1 innings. Out of the bullpen, arms like Brooks McDonnough, Jonathon Van Ness, and Zane Brown have provided valuable innings, while Sam Heyman has shown the ability to limit opposing hitters when commanding the zone.
Belmont's pitching staff holds a 6.48 ERA on the season and will be focused on limiting free passes and big innings against a familiar opponent.\
