SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Belmont University men's cross country team registered a 13th place finish Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Invitational on the campus of Notre Dame University.
Two Bruins came through with top 50 finishes as junior Luke Evans (Columbus, Ohio) was the leader of the pack with a mark of 25:13.3. Evans finished just outside the top 20 coming in at 22nd overall. Placing 38th was Matt Edwards (Glamorgan, Wales) who notched a 25.28.9 finish.
Jackson Grzymkoswki (Commerce, Mich.) recorded a 60th overall finish while racing to a mark of 25.45.5. Matt Blivin (Durham, N.C.) and Kaden Eaton (Columbus, Ind.) rounded out Belmont's top five performers, placing 116th and 123rd, respectively.
"We took a step back today performance wise. We just do not have the depth this year to overcome a bad race by even one guy. However, Luke Evans and Jackson Gryzmkowski really stepepd up today and ran awesome," said Director of Cross Country Jeff Langdon.
With a mark of 26:44.7 Alex Mimlitz (Elmhurst, Ill.) placed 138th while teammate Anthony Didion (La Porte, Ind.) finished 175th with a time of 28:01.5.
"Alex Mimlitz ran a really gutsy race. I think Alex will make an impact on this team by the time conference rolls around," added Langdon.
After winning the Belmont Opener to kick off the season, the Bruins have now recorded back-to-back top 15 finishes.
Belmont resumes its season on Oct. 14 and 15, when the team will split up for the Crimson Classic and Pre-Nats competition.
