Exciting Exhibition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's soccer defeated Lipscomb, 1-0, Friday night from E.S. Rose Park in its exhibition season opener.

Belmont senior forward Erin Patterson scored the lone tally in the 55th minute on a dazzling individual effort and upper 90 finish past the Bisons' keeper.

Sarah Doyle and Andrea Leitner split time in goal for the Bruins.

Following the match, Patterson spoke of the mindset heading into the exhibition opener.

"I think my teammates can attest that the way we came in this season was on a very positive note we were able to really focus on some really intentional aspects of our game and really tone in on that," Patterson said.

"I felt like the ball was in the air for like ten years, just waiting for it to go in but when it came off my foot, I knew it was a good hit," Patterson added. "I was really thankful for Natalie for that ball. A great team effort to keep it alive and really excited to get the season started with that."

While always noting teachable moments, Belmont head coach Heather Henson expressed satisfaction with how her team handled the uncertainty of weather and playing conditions leading into the match.

"I thought they did a great job in having the right level of energy. They celebrated each other's wins every time something good happened on the field and as a new player stepped onto the field."

Belmont returns to exhibition action Sunday vs. Southern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT from E.S. Rose Park.
