Box Score ATHENS, Ga.—Another blazing hot day in the south and a game filled with hydration breaks, perseverance, and determination. Belmont University fell short 5-0 to the University of Georgia in their fourth match of the season.
Despite the score goalie, Sarah Doyle recorded thirteen saves with 29 shots against her. Doyle had a fantastic game rescuing the Bruins from some unfavorable situations. In the first 15 minutes of the game Doyle had already recorded four saves.
Head Coach Heather Henson commented on Doyle's performance today, "Sarah brought what I know she can bring, she's going to be ultra-aggressive, she's going to come off her line, she's going to clean up when things get played in behind. I thought her air game was really good, I thought she read angles really well, she's not going to sit back and let it come to her she's going to be aggressive and come to the ball. That is Sarah and what we expect on a daily basis from her."
The Bruins showed up to play and their excitement and determination did not diminish as the Bulldogs score rose. The bench remained as positive and loud as ever while the players left everything they had on the pitch.
The Bruins were successful in their passing through to their forwards and keeping their energy high throughout the match.
In the last five minutes of the match Bruins recorded two of their five shots, a true testament to their perseverance.
Coach Henson speaks positively about the successes of the team today, "I thought they did a good job of shifting as a unit to be able to close those seams down. I thought we did a good job in trying to dispossess Georgia of that first or second ball and then with that our cover player would grab hold of the ball giving us opportunities to connect. Our center backs had really great reads and would step to defend and if they were able to win it their transitional pass, they looked to play the ball forward to connect that first pass."
Bulldogs' goals were scored by Daniella Murguia, Tori Penn, Morgan Hart, Danielle Lewin, Mollie Belisle
Coach Henson describes the importance of playing different programs and conferences, "I think playing a team like Georgia gives us opportunities to play at a faster pace, to have to raise our speed of play in our transitional moments, playing them created opportunities liked that and we saw some success from those but now it's how do we create more of those."
The Bruins compete next at E.S. Rose Park on Thursday against Houston Baptist University and on Sunday against The University of Detroit Mercy.
