Nashville, Tenn. -- Getting its 2024 indoor season underway at nearby Vanderbilt University, the Belmont University men's track team competed across six events on Friday.Â
Four Bruins saw action in the 300m, but it was Austin Belle, the freshman sprinter from Naperville, Illinois, who headlined. In his first collegiate race, Belle topped the previous program record of 35.07Â with a blazing time of 33.82.
Morgan Lewis earned first in his 300m heat, and also topped the record mark, with a time of 34.97. Rodney Bryant earned second in his heat with a time of 36.18.
In the 1000m, Zach Brill claimed the top spot in his heat with a time of 2:31.62, as Reuben Macdonald ran alongside Brill and finished in 2:33.86. Kaden Keller finished in 2:44.48.
Daniel Ahearn was the long Bruin in the 600m, finishing in 1:25.30.
Transitioning to field events, Jackson Grant threw a personal best 16.33m in weight throw as Robert Joseph threw 15.84 and Lleyton Penn launched 12.42.
In pole vault action, Trey Collins, Aidan Dinsbeer (personal best)Â and Payton Culp all topped 4.53m. Andrew Steinhart topped 4.33.
Collins was the lone Bruin in the long jump as he jumped 6.46m.
The Bruins will continue action in the Commodore Challenge on Saturday where Belmont will field athletes in the following events: shot put, 60m, 60m H, one-mile run, 400m, 800m, 3000m and 4x400m relay.
