Nashville, Tenn. -- Getting its 2024 indoor season underway at nearby Vanderbilt University, the Belmont University women's track team competed across six events on Friday.Â
Logan Gray headlined on the women's side, showcasing her skills in the weight throw, securing a top-10 finish while breaking a program record. Throwing 19.62 meters Gray finished ninth overall, ahead of competitors from Ole Miss, Indiana and Western Kentucky among others.
In long jump action, Ireland Crowther jumped 4.98 meters. Carlota Salgado Garcia jumped 4.94m, as Chelsea Mitchell notched 4.83 on her jump.Â
Rounding out field events, Garcia Palencia claimed seventh overall, clearing 1.55m as Salgado Garcia cleared the same height. McKenna Prouty topped 1.50m.
Brooke Stromsland, Carson Wasemiller and Betsy Gordon ran the 1000m. Stromsland finished 12th overall with a time of 2:59.32, while Wasemiller (3:06.47) and Gordon (3:07.13) placed third and fourth in their respective heat.
A trio of Belmont runners took on the 600m. All in the same heat, Sophia Harvey claimed second place with a personal best time of 1:36.9, while Alexa Fortman (1:36.68) and Savanah Balcerak (1:38.24) followed in third and fourth.Â
Emory Moore and Sarah Richmond both competed in the 300m to end the night for the Bruins. Moore finished with a personal best time of 40.71 atop her heat while Richmond claimed the top spot in her respective heat in a personal best 41 seconds.
The Bruins will continue action in the Commodore Challenge on Saturday where Belmont will field athletes in the following events: pole vault, shot put, 60m h, 60m, one-mile run, 400m, 800m, 3000m and the 4x400m relay.
