Chicago, Ill. – On its first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, Belmont men's track and field achieved history.Â
With a win in the 5000m, Carter Cheeseman became the Bruin's first individual champion for indoor track and field since Belmont joined the Missouri Valley Conference.
Cheeseman's winning time was 14:16.13, which solidifies him as the indoor 5000m record holder after he topped Kaleb McLeod's 2018 record by over seven seconds.Â
Top Performing Bruins
Austin Belle secured a spot in Monday's 400m finals after notching a time of 47.83 in the prelims.Â
Kevin Vanderkolk will run in the 800m finals on Monday after running 1:53.80 in the prelims.Â
Jayce Gray earned a spot in Monday's 200m finals after crossing the line in 21.74 in the prelims.Â
Joel Wolf will see action in Monday's Mile finale after running third in 4:11.92 in the prelims.Â
Robert Joseph threw a personal best 17.01m in the weight throw.
Next Up
The Bruins will return to action tomorrow on the final day of the championships. The first Bruins will showcase their talent in the men's shot put beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m.
