NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Belmont University Women's cross country team started off the season with a strong performance at the Belmont Opener at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The Bruins finished second in a field of local competition.
Freshman Sophie Nicholls from Wells, England led the way for the Bruins with an impressive first place finish, more than 20 seconds faster than the second place runner from Vanderbilt.
"It was a bit scary at first coming in, because I knew they're such a good team and they've raced together for so long, but I think I'm beginning to find my place and I'm looking forward to what we can do in the future," Nicholls said about her first few weeks with the team.
Junior Clara Crain and sophomore Lilie Fouts both placed in the top ten.
Carson Wasemiller, and Callie Kent came in next for Belmont, both with times under 19:20.0.
