RALEIGH, N.C. - The Belmont Track & Field distance runners competed in Raleigh, N.C. this week the Raleigh Relays, highly anticipated annual meet hosted by NC State.
The men raced on Thursday, beginning with
Aaron Richter in the 1500m. Richter placed 4th in his heat with a PR of 3:50.29 for the freshman.
Shortly following the 1500m,
Noah Epker,
Zach Brill, and
Sam Shuman competed in the 3000m Steeplechase. Brill placed the highest of the Bruins, running a 9:09.32.
Four Belmont runners (
Reuben Macdonald,
Andrew Hammel,
Drew Brill,
Matty Mackay) closed out Thursday night with the 5000m. Macdonald hit a big PR of 14:38.29 in the first heat of the competition, running over 40 seconds faster than his previous record.
The Bruin women started competition Friday night with
Clara Crain,
Lilie Fouts, and
Sophie Nicholls in the 5000m. Fouts ran a personal best of 17:05.47 to place 2nd in her heat. Nicholls also PR'd to place 3rd in her heat, with a time of 16:36.41.
Belmont's last runner of the meet was
Alexa Fortman in the 800m on Saturday morning.
Bruins Track & Field will appear in two meets next week;Â the Texas Relays on April 1-4 in Austin, Texas, and the Bobcat Invitational on April 2-4 in San Marcos, Texas.
