Men's Track and Field Wraps up at Commodore Challenge

Bruins Show Flashes in First Meet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's track and field team picked back up at Vanderbilt University on Saturday morning for the second day of the Commodore challenge. The Bruins competed across five events and continued to get experience inside the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.

Day two of the meet got underway with the shot put where throwers Jackson Grant (14.93m) and Robert Joseph (14.25m) claimed ninth and 11th place.

"The throws crew had a very successful weekend to kick off the season competing in the Missouri Valley, they showed up and did their job, and although we have some things to tweak and sharpen up, they are in a great spot for this time of year," Assistant coach Joe Frye said.

Jayden Gray and Mathew Miller both ran in the 60m . In preliminaries, Gray finished in 6.98, earning 14th overall and Miller finished in 7.82, claiming 35th.

In the 800m, Wyatt Womack ran a 2:04.55 to take home 18th.

Gavin Morrow (4:26.03) led the Bruins in the mile, earning 21st, with Morgan Turpin (4:32.19) following in 25th and Garrett Hesselgesser (4:34.59) in 26th.

Zach Brill and Noah Epker finished the day in the 3000m. Brill ran 8:49.02, winning his heat and claiming 10th overall. Epker followed in 15th with a time of 9:04.80.

"Overall it was a good season opener. The athletes performed pretty well considering we've only had 3 practices coming into the meet. I think another week of training will do them well before we come back to Vandy next week," Associate head coach Cameron Harvey said.
