NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's track and field team competed at Vanderbilt University this weekend for the Indoor Music City Challenge. The Bruins competed across 14 events and saw 20 student-athletes in action.Â
Belmont's third meet of the season allowed the Bruins to compete against a variety of power five programs and other Missouri Valley Conference foes before preparing for the conference championships in two weeks.Â
Belmont rose to the occasion, associate head coach Cameron Harvey said.Â
"It was a solid two-day performance for the squad. This meet was definitely the toughest competition we faced all season," Harvey added.Â
On Friday, pole vaulters Trey Collins and Payton Culp continued to make strides.Â
"The men's vault crew continued to put up consistent marks," Harvey said. "While they didn't finish as high as they wanted to, they made good strides that bode well for conference in 2 weeks."Â
In distance action, Jacob Ricks earned first in his heat with a PR in the 5000m with a time of 14:26.79. He now ranks No.2 in the MVC. Â
Kevin Vanderkolk ran in the 800m and finished first in his heat.Â
"Jake Ricks stole the show with a 14 second best in men's 5k. He was seeded last in his heat and finished 1st," Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Jeff Langdon said. "There were lots of great performances across the board."Â
In throws action, Robert Joseph notched a PR at 16.48m. On Saturday, Jackson Grant gained a PR in shot put at 15.99m.Â
"The throws crew is definitely shaping up at the right time," assistant coach Joe Frye said. "We know we'll have some tough competition coming up at the MVC championship meet, and I'm proud of the group for stepping up to the challenge"Â
