KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -Â Belmont University Men's Track & Field took part in the Tennessee Invite this past weekend at the University of Tennessee.
Â
Freshmen Otto Richter and
Kiefer Jay opened the meet for the Bruins in the 1500m. Jay earned the first PR of the weekend with a time of 3:59.86, his fastest by 6 seconds. "It was fun; very hot but it went well," Jay says about the race. "I was excited to feel strong in the middle of the race. I need to work on closing speed but overall it was good."
Daniel Crouse,
Jayce Gray, and
Jayden Gray followed with the 200m in the mid-afternoon.
Jack Perry had a successful day at the pole vault pit, where he hit a new PR of 5.06m and broke his own Belmont school record (previously 5.00m). "I feel really good about today," Perry says. "I felt really confident and pretty strong and fast in warm-ups, and was able to have some success jumping a new PR. That's always a good day; whenever you can jump your best."
Jesiah Low and
Nathan Katic raced in the 5000m on Friday evening, when Katic broke the 15 minute mark to set a new PR of 14:55.12.
Sam Parker closed out the night by placing 6th in the javelin throw.
Early on Saturday, Otto Richter ran the 800m and
Andrew Taylor placed 6th in the high jump. Later,
Lleyton Penn competed in the shot put and
Daniel Crouse and
Tyler Nunn ran the 400m.
About team performance as a whole this weekend, Coach
Cameron Harvey says, "The staff was pretty happy with the results this weekend. We're in the middle of the outdoor season so it's nice to see the performances trend upward. Jack, Jennifer, Carlota, Lilie and Nathan had great results. Hopefully they're breakthrough moments that lead to bigger things down the line. Hopefully we can keep it going next weekend at GA Tech and Bryan Clay."
Â
Belmont returns to competition with split squad action at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa Pacific University) and the Georgia Tech Invitational this upcoming weekend, April 16-18.
