The name Dave Whitten is synonymous with Belmont Baseball.  Belmont’s longest serving head coach, Dave spent 29 years at the helm of the baseball program. Coach Whitten is one of the most respected men in the Middle Tennessee area, having fostered many of the area’s best high school coaches that carry on the Belmont way to future generations.

During his coaching tenure at Belmont, Dave earned Coach of the Year honors five times, his teams won eight VSAC/TCAC division titles, and he led the Rebels to three straight conference titles from 1975-1977.  During the 1976 season, Dave’s team held a national ranking of No. 7 in the NAIA.

Coach Whitten was recognized by his peers in 1998 by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association who elected him into its Hall of Fame.

He was one of three charter members of the Belmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980. He will always be Belmont’s “Mr. Baseball.”

Whitten recorded his 600th career victory in 1995, and ended his coaching career with a record of 663-455-7.

His number 21 is one of two retired numbers in Belmont Baseball history.
