Dave Young founded the men’s cross country and track program in 1976 and added the women’s cross country and track program in 1980. His teams immediately became a regular force in the NAIA District 24.
During his 15-year tenure as coach, Young led the men’s program to four District Championships and three District Titles on the women’s side. Under the direction of Coach Young, he produced All-American runner Mark Dennis.
Young helped produce two Individual National Champions and 14 NAIA All-Americans, as well as eight NAIA Academic All-Americans.
To many, Terry Coker, a two-time National Champion in the NAIA Marathon and current Belmont Hall of Famer, remains the “crown jewel” of the Dave Young era.
