Norman Kalkhoff played both men’s basketball and tennis at Belmont from 1971-1973.

Kalkhoff will go down as one of the great tennis players in program history, establishing himself at the No. 1 position in the VSAC, reaching the conference finals at that position both years of competition. Norman’s powerful serve, accurate backhand, and ability to cover the court with grace and ease was a thing of natural beauty. He was steady and consistent in his play and demeanor from match to match.

While tennis was his strong suit, he was also a stand-out for the men’s basketball team at the point guard position and during the 1971-72 season, shot an incredible 89.5 percent from the free throw line.

Norman was named Belmont’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1973.  He later served as Coach of the Belmont Tennis Team in 1974-1975.
