Scott Corley holds the distinction of being head coach Rick Byrd's first recruit to Belmont, and he helped establish the tradition that has led Belmont to the NCAA Division I era. In Corley's four years, the Rebels went from a .500 team to a NAIA national tournament qualifier.
Between 1986 and 1990, Belmont won 90 games while losing only 41 for a remarkable .687 winning percentage. In addition to his contributions to the team's marked improvement, Corley helped rewrite the Belmont record book by proving to be one of the most prolific three-point shooters in school history. His 420 three-point field goals and 978 attempts both set school records while his .429 three-point shooting percentage ranked second after his career.
The southpaw became the seventh player to score 2,000 points in a Belmont uniform. But Corley was not just a shooting sensation, his 81 single-season steals in 1990 and 244 career steals are currently second in Belmont basketball history. His work in the classroom earned Scott recognition as an NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete following his senior season.
Scott entered the banking industry after graduation. Corley also provided color commentary for Belmont basketball radio broadcasts in the late 90s. Corley was named Belmont's Athletic Director on May 31, 2016 where he currently serves today.
