Gary McDonald was a stellar two-sport athlete in baseball and basketball at Belmont from 1964-67, but unquestionable he made his greatest impact on the pitching mound.

One in a long line of premier pitchers recruited by head coach Dave Whitten, McDonald was a three-time All-VSAC performer and a two-time Most Valuable Player.

McDonald's career earned run average of 1.66 has stood as the program standard for over four decades, with his 1.89 ERA in 1965 currently sitting as the eighth-lowest single season ERA in program history. In that same season, he threw the program's second no-hitter in program history.

Teammates remember McDonald as a determined and focused player who thrived on pressure situations. He never met a challenge he didn't like.
