Belmont won 45 conference championships and made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances with Strickland at the helm, all while adding six sports (women’s soccer, women’s golf, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field) and unveiling new facilities in the Curb Event Center and E.S. Rose Park.
During Strickland's tenure, 1,084 students (student-athletes, cheerleaders, team managers) earned degrees, with Belmont garnering 24 Academic All-America selections and taking home the conference academic trophy 13 out of 15 years in an NCAA Division I conference.
Strickland was named 2009 Under Armour/National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Southeast Region Athletic Director of the Year.
Strickland, who retired earlier in the summer of 2016 following 20 years as athletic director, navigated Belmont’s transition from NAIA, to NCAA Division I independent, to membership in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and ultimately, the Ohio Valley Conference.
