Terry Coker was the face of Belmont cross country in the early 1980’s when he made the program known nationally with his running ability. His phenomenal success in the marathon remains a highlight in Belmont’s Cross Country history. Terry twice earned NAIA All-American honors as the NAIA Marathon Champion in 1983 and 1984.
In 1983, Coker set a new NAIA Marathon record of 2:21:18. Dedicated, tough, and a desire to never finish second are trademarks of Terry Coker. He never took a day off.
He was quoted as saying, “The difference between a good runner and a great runner is the extra effort when you feel you have nothing else to give. I just try to give extra effort when it counts.”
