Jerry Sullivan was a two-sport star who was physically gifted to dominate the hard-court as well as the diamond. Basketball is where he shined; standing 6’5”, he was a rugged and aggressive player who turned into one of the premiere rebounders in Belmont men’s basketball history. He was the quintessential post player who was feared by opponents for his enforcer-type mentality.
His dominating presence around the basket helped him enter the record books time and time again. Sullivan ended his career with 912 rebounds – good for ninth all time – with an average of 12 per game, putting him third on the all-time list.
In a game against Bethel, he recorded 30 rebounds which remains tied for the most by a Bruin in a game. His top performance came during the 1964 season when he averaged 14.6 rebounds per game, placing him fifth in the record books.
